1. See you soon, Delaware!

I have been waiting a while to write this blog but I still cannot believe the end is here. I have come to love Delaware more than I ever expected to, it has really become a new home to me. Although I won’t miss the lack of air-conditioning, the public bathrooms, and the $2.25 charge for laundry, I will miss the people I have met and forever remember the memories I made.

I feel so completely proud that I moved almost 800 miles away from home and started my new life here at UD. I have met the most amazing people, conquered larger course loads than I could have ever imagined, and learned countless life lessons about friendship and growing pains. Although this is a bittersweet moment absolutely, this just marks the beginning of my amazing college journey (which is luckily all going to be documented through this blog!). I have loved blogging through the moments of happiness, confusion, and stress and look forward to doing so throughout my college career.

For now, I will be heading back to the Windy City for the summer where I will be enjoying the summer also taking a trip to Ireland! I can’t wait to see UD again in August!

  2. Approaching the end…

My freshman year of classes are officially over! So much has happened this year and it has been so amazing but technically it isn’t over yet! I have a final on the last day of finals which is the 24th, so I have to see everyone leave which is so sad. It’s nice that I have 6 days to study and move myself out because that way I don’t have to rush.

As a kind of final goodbye, some of my friends and I went out to dinner at a little mexican restaurant near campus called La Tonalteca. It was nice to not eat at the dining hall (since everyone is running out of meals…) and spend some time out of the study lounges and the library for the night.

For the next dew days I will be studying for my two last finals and then moving out, I will blog through the experience!

  3. Weekend with Mom, storage facilities, and the Cheesecake Factory!

This was a productive weekend, but not in the terms of schoolwork, for once! My mom came to visit me for the weekend! It was wonderful to see her, of course, but she also helped me get the ball rolling on my plans to move out for summer vacation. I can’t believe freshman year is over in two weeks, it has been so rewarding and amazing (but that is a whole other blog…)

My mom and I went on the hunt for a storage facility in Newark that was close to campus and was climate controlled, which was surprisingly easy to find. We found one right down Elkton road, so when I move out I can keep the majority of my belongings here close to campus for me to pick up in August!

I got a sufficient break from the dining hall for the past couple of days and got to take my friends out to dinner with my mom at the Cheesecake Factory, which was so delicious (and also provides the college essential of leftovers)! It was exciting for my mom to meet the amazing girls who I will be living with next year and revisit the campus that I now call my second home.

This weekend was definitely the last relaxing one I will have here because finals are quickly approaching! The weeks to come will consist of studying for all of my finals, gradually packing up my life to return home to Chicago, and in the meantime enjoying every last second of my freshman year here at UD.

  4. Why I chose UD!

Being from Illinois, I feel as though I get questioned a lot about why I came to Delaware. Why Delaware? Why did you come here? Why would you move 800 miles away from home? Honestly, I get a little annoyed of being asked this all the time, but now I feel like I finally have the platform to answer it.

I knew that I didn’t want to stay close to home. My sister went far away to school and loved it so it made me feel like I could go far away and succeed too. I think I always wanted to go to school on the East coast, it was just a matter of where. I knew I needed some things in a college, it was just a matter of finding them. I wanted a medium sized school, which just doesn’t exist in the Midwest. Also, I wanted my college to be bigger than my large high school, yet didn’t feel so large that I was lost within it. I wanted there to be access to stores, shops, malls, restaurants, and “outside life” besides the campus life! I wanted to be close to some major cities, be around kids like me, live on a pretty campus, get a good education, and go to a fun school with a good reputation.

Luckily, I found Delaware, and I got in! I honestly didn’t think I would, but when I got my acceptance letter I knew I would come here. I think I decided to come here finally because of how beautiful the campus is how happy the kids looked here all wearing their yellow and blue, and how perfect the size of the school was.

If I could talk to a prospective freshman who is in between Delaware and another college, I think I would say that if you want an amazingly fun and rewarding experience, come to UD and see why everyone loves it so much here!

  5. hello! So I'm going to be a freshman at UD this fall :) Right now I'm in the process of trying to find a roommate and I'm trying to figure out which dorms I like the best. I really like the idea of suite style so I think I'm going to put George Read down. But I was just wondering where you lived your freshman year and what you thought of it? Also, do you have any advice on finding a roommate versus getting one assigned to you?

First of all congrats that is so exciting!!! Choosing between the residence halls was the one thing I was concerned about too. George Read is on North Campus and is very nice because it has suit style rooms and you get your own bathroom but it is also in high demand because of this! I am finishing up my freshman year and am still living in Dickinson (West Campus). I love Dickinson mainly because of how social it is. People consider it very social because the rooms are on the small side but they have a big communal lounge on each floor where everyone hangs out. East Campus is also very nice with a great dining hall. I found my roommate on the Facebook page for admitted students and I love her! I just wanted someone who was like me. I would suggest trying to find someone with similar interests, cleanliness and sleeping habits, and general lifestyle choices (these seem to be the biggest issues among roommates). If you don’t find someone on Facebook or some other resource you can go random and fill out the survey, UD tries to match you up with someone you will be compatible with. I hope this helped, if you have any other questions please don’t hesitate to ask! You will love UD :)

  6. Towers!!!

I’ve been waiting to post this blog for a while until I knew where I was living next year and I finally do, I am living in the West Towers!!! I am so excited, I will be with my friends and anything is an upgrade (space wise) from where I am living now.

On top of finding out where we live I had to regster for classes today! Let me just be honest when I say, scheduling is STRESSFUL. My major is very lenient with classes so it’s sometimes hard for me to find things to fit. All in all, I got all my classes except for one, which I found a replacement for, so I’m happy.

It’s been such a hectic month with so many exams and such but I’m happy it’s over until finals! I am excited to write my blog on reflecting on freshman year which I can’t believe is almost over! I’m glad I have this blog to look over and see the whole thing documented.

  7. #UDDecisionDays

It’s a beautiful day out for Decision Days!!! Having a great time meeting potential new freshman!

  8. April

This week has been pretty busy. I had two exams this week and then two next week as well, I am trying to keep my grades up and finish the semester strong. This month of April is an important one for many reasons, for one, I find out where I am living next year within the next couple weeks and I am so nervous! Also, I have to start planning my classes for the Fall and then edit them according to how they fill up.

I have decided to apply for an Advertising minor after I have the 28 credits needed to apply, which will be after this semester. I think it’s going to be a good contrast to my History major which will require a lot of writing and reading. Next semester I get to take really different classes which I enjoy because it makes the work loads different.

Lastly, this month of April is a big one for the Class of 2016!!! Today, my friend is hosting a potential freshman and shows her around, eats meals with her, and she stays in the dorms with us tonight. On top of that, tomorrow is UDDecision Day! I will be working at the Social Media Table throughout the day and talking to all the families who come out to see our campus (and tweet/facebook about it), I’m excited!

  9. Easter-Weekend 2012

This weekend was Easter and it feels like a large holiday here at UD. My family and I generally don’t celebrate Easter in a large way, but this year my friend Marissa and I went to our friend Caroline’s house in Pennsylvania to celebrate with her family! It was nice to be around such a warm family and such a homey environment with amazing meals. Honestly, I hadn’t been to church in years so it was nice to be back in mass to bless our Easter baskets! Today was such a beautiful day to eat, socialize, and run around and collect easter eggs. This was the last (informal) break we have before summer so between now and then school is going to be extremely chaotic, I’m grateful I got to get away before the madness! As usual, I took many pictures over the weekend, enjoy! :)
